No Big Deal

I rode my bike to work today, no big deal you say, well it was for me cause I've been thinking about doing it for a couple of years, I really wanted to start riding to work but things never fell into place until this spring, I had more reasons than the Dept. of Excuses for not doing it. This spring I just seem to have a knowing that this was the year for biking. Earlier this month, I stumbled on a new bike that being cleared out as last years model from Canadian Tire and got a great deal on it.

The ride was great, the morning was cool at -1C, the ride home a bit warmer. Princess Auto had this bright yellow safety vest for seven bucks, I want to make sure no one runs me over though I look like a "hoser". I'm using my inline skating helmet so that I can wear a thin balaclava, there was a windchill shown on the weather channel.

The route I chose takes me through Assiniboine Park, down the Wellington Ave bike trail and into down town. Park of the bike trails runs along Assiniboine River, just beautiful, an honest to goodness CAVU morning!

OGG (one great guy)

My buddy Frank and I were out flying our r/c airplanes, such a treat to start the flying season, cool but almost CAVU and the field is fairly dry.

Frank's a damm good flyer considering he only has one good eye, and now that he had cataract sugery on that eye, he flies even better.

An ex fire fighter that has been buried in a collapsed burnt building a couple of times, this guy love of life is amazing, hanging out with Frank makes any day a CAVU Day.

The Eye on the Prize

Following the lives of my children, nieces and nephews has taught me lots of stuff. Young people have an elasticity to their lives and they have big goals and big dreams, big hearts. From a distance I can see things that I cannot see in the clutter of my own life, thus I learn from them.

This week's CAVU news is that Carson has signed a pro hockey contract with the Minnesota Wild and we all get to share in his joy.
I think that when he left home four years ago, to play with the Calgary Hitmen, hockey became fun work, fun but still work. Over the past four years I was lucky to attend a couple of his games each and see Carson work to his goal or as his mom says, keeping his eye on the prize.
This Hitmen season has been special, the "stars" of last year's team had moved on and there were not any " stars" left on the team thus a lot unknowns. To everyone's surprise, the team had a great season, one of their best in history, good for them, they worked hard.
I find the best part of the game is after the game for that is where the real magic happens and I get to watch Carson interact with small kids that have big dreams.

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Minnesota Wild Acting General Manager Tom Lynn today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed right wing Carson McMillan to an entry-level contract.

Thank-you Carson!

First Flight

A buddy Garnet Burke emailed me these photos of his grandson taking his first airplane ride.

When you are a kid, most days are CAVU Days, small things are special thrills.

Thanks Garnet!

We drove out to the Winnipeg Gliding Club field on Sunday to see where it was. The site is 50.2km from my doorstep -one way.

The site looks great, the camping area is located in the old farm yard site and has nice trees, it's going to be a great place to park the camper and start glider flying.

The site has a lot of water on it from the spring melt, it'll be a few weeks before before the tow planes will be able to use the runways.
